Dao Wine
The mountainous wine region of Dao is just south of the Douro Valley and is one of Portugal’s oldest wine producing regions. It takes its name from the river Dao, which runs through the area. Most of the vineyards are 150-450 m above sea level on granite soils, providing an ideal location to make red wines. Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo) and Touriga Nacional dominate the red blends alongside indigenous varieties.
