Lombardy Wine

Just south of the Swiss border is the region of Lombardy, whose most famous wine is the sparkling wine Franciacorta. The cool climate is well suited to producing sparkling wines, with some producers emulating Champagne styles as well as the more traditional local styles. Still wines are also made here, with international varieties such as Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc finding success alongside more traditional Italian grapes like Covina and Garganega.
